What Makes a Great Website?
No matter what your internet marketing needs, it must start with a great website. What makes a great website, though? Is it a design that stops people in their tracks? Is it beautiful css transitions that helps your customers make a decision? Or is it amazing programming that allows your website to fulfill your wildest business goals?
A great website should achieve the goal that it was setup for and then get out of the way. For instance, if you want to get more leads for your business, then having a form on your homepage placed in a strategic spot is a great way to achieve this. Or maybe you want to show off your products? A product carousel may be the answer for you. The point is that your great website depends on your goals. We help you determine those through a conversation with our website specialists. They will sit down with you and discuss your needs and then present you with the solutions to achieve them.
Your Hosting Matters
Did you know that the speed and security of your site matters? Not only is it better for your users, but Google® also cares about these features. In fact, if your site is slow or if there’s any suspicious activity from it, the great search engine giant will dock your rankings. If you think about it, it makes sense. You want your users to have a great experience on your website (by the way, so does Google®). If they open your website and it takes a minute for the entire page to load, then they may just leave. In today’s world, your website must load in seconds. If a user loads your website and they see the dreaded “security warning”, they won’t want to continue on. After all, no one wants another virus on their computer.
The answer to these problems comes down to your web hosting. Not all hosting providers are made equal. Our hosting provider knows the security plugins and web services needed to not only keep your website running fast, but also virus free. Our hosting also provides redundant backups of your data, so if something goes wrong, we can restore an earlier version.
How Do You Wrangle Your SEO?
Ah, SEO. Love it or hate it, search engine optimization is necessary. It controls the very livelihoods of our websites. Gone are the days when everyone headed to the phone book to find a nearby automotive repair shop, or where to buy cheap running shoes. Today, nearly everyone hits the internet to find answers to their problems and help them find the best places to shop. So, it’s important that your website ranks for what your customers are searching for.
Again, this process begins with a conversation. We take the time to talk with you about what your customers are looking for. If you’re not sure, we’ll help you find out. Then we make sure those terms are in strategic places on your website, so the search engines (and your customers) can find you. We will even tweak the content or SEO settings if your rankings drop.
To Sell or Not to Sell?
Selling online used to be hard. You had to find a shopping cart program, hook it up to your website, pray that it worked, then manually add all your products (including variations, pricing, and information). Luckily, those days are gone. We now have full-blown eCommerce sites that will get the job done in a fraction of the time.
There are many eCommerce platforms out there, but we prefer Opencart. Opencart is an open-source eCommerce platform that makes it easy to manage your products (you can even upload them from a spreadsheet), provides great selling tools like sliders and product carousels, and makes your website look great.
Your Content The Way You Want It
Remember the days when you had to contact your web developer to change even one word on your site? Thankfully, those days are over. Today, we have content management systems which put the power back in the website owner’s hands. This means you don’t have to contact us to change a misspelling on your webpage or to tweak the wording. You can even update pictures and videos on your own.
Not all content management systems are easy to use, though. They should be, but the reality is that a lot of them fall short. That’s why we use Wordpress, the king of the content management systems. Wordpress organizes your site in a way that anyone can figure out. Want to edit the content on a specific page? Just click on “Pages”, find the page you want to edit, edit the content and hit “Update”. It’s simple for someone without any programming experience to use, while also allowing web developers to highly customize your site.
